Adjustable Seal

The Adjustable Seal addresses a common turbine issue: the gap between rotor and seal changes from cold startup to full operating temperature. Springs or spring plates behind each seal block allow adaptive movement. At cold startup, the gap is larger, preventing rotor rub at critical speed. As the unit heats under load, the springs push the seal block closer, optimizing the hot gap for efficient sealing. This adaptive design ensures both safe startup and high operating performance.

Traditional fixed seals require a large cold gap for safe startup, which compromises hot efficiency. The Adjustable Seal maintains full safety during startup and shutdown, while significantly improving efficiency during normal operation. Leakage is 40% to 70% lower than fixed labyrinth seals. Operating parameters cover -40°C to 650°C, pressures up to 12 MPa, and a radial adjustment range of 0.5 to 1.5 mm, with response time ≤1 second. Service life is 4 to 8 years. This makes it ideal for power plants with frequent load changes or peak load operation.

The Adjustable Seal can replace existing labyrinth or honeycomb seals without changing the cylinder.
