Turbine Gland Seal Temperature Anomaly: A Warning Signal For Equipment Health

Mar 07, 2026|

In actual operation, abnormal fluctuations in steam supply temperature often serve as an early warning sign of equipment malfunction. When the temperature remains persistently low, it may indicate damage to the insulation of the steam supply piping or a stuck control valve; conversely, a sudden spike in temperature could signal a leak in the steam seals or a failure within the heating system.

One power plant, for instance, once overlooked a gradual temperature rise of just 0.5°C per minute in its steam supply; this oversight led to the complete wear-out of the steam seal rings within three hours, ultimately forcing an emergency shutdown for repairs. Therefore, it is recommended to establish a temperature trend monitoring system-setting an alarm threshold of ±10°C-effectively installing a "thermometer" on the steam turbine to ensure that potential issues have nowhere to hide.
